We are back! Graphics drivers are stupid and I hate them. Turns out there’s a very specific Intel HD Graphics drive that will wreck my system, and while my i5-7200U SEEMS like it would be a 7th gen and use the old drivers it turns out it actually uses net new “media” driverset and it you get that wrong it wrecks your shit…this stuff is stupid.

Also I learnt that installing Steam with Pacman is a BAD IDEA, Flatpak is the way to go if you want it to not install dozens of broken 32bit dependencies. Who knew?

I have reinstalled ArchBang so many time that I have almost memorized all the inputs to do it blind.

I now have a newly fresh install and a fresh Windows 10 LTSC IoT install with a broken bootloader. I just need to use my install USB for windows to fix that, then go back and fix GRUB again and MAYBE I’ll have a functional dual boot system again.

That’s future me’s problem tho, I’m going to sleep.

I know how computers work, but I don’t like them anymore.

Just spent several days getting my website setup, starting to enjoy the distro of Linux I am using. Well, then I had the hubris to think I could try installing Steam. I had to install a graphics driver..everything seemed to go alright, no errors, but Steam wouldn’t open..

So I’m like, whatever, I’ll try giving it a restart. I boot back up, but for some reason my password doesn’t work…I spent the last hour trying to troubleshoot that only to find that the GUI for the entire install is broken in a way I don’t know how to fix…it’s amazing.

I would not be going to this system if Windows wasn’t becoming worse by the day..but it is, so I’m trying to get ready for 2032 when I can’t get security updates for Win 10 LTSC IoT anymore.

I’m going to take this “opportunity” to reinstall Win 10 instead of Win 11 because the updates keep failing and I’ve seen no reason to keep 11. Windows 10 LTSC IoT / ArchBang
