No update for a while and I haven’t been doing anything with the Unreal server recently. I think I fell into a slump and I’m working my way out of it. I’d like to have more friends that i can relate with or collaborate on projects with. I recently gained a friend that I talked to a while back that needed a place so he moved into the house I’m supposed to be fixing up, he does art and I’m excited to get to know and work with him. I recently moved over to the other house and out of the house with my teens and roommates. I feel like the space is good for me and I can start working on getting things done without the same sort of disorder and chaos, I just have to get my ass in gear to do it.
I’m trying to kick old habits that found me again. Cigarettes suck and they make me feel gross, but they’re something to do that lets me procrastinate in a comfy way. I want to get things done instead
My install of Void Linux just froze on me in that way that has always plagued me when running Linux and is ultimately the reason I’m still pretty die hard for Windows 10. I was really hopeful with Wayland because it has seemed more stable up until just now.
What do you do when your screen freezes in Linux? The most straightforward answer is you hold the power button until the computer stops breathing and hope your work was auto-saved at some point. I’ve explored options, and there might be a few that can let you run blind commands, maybe, but nothing that really works and is widely adopted and known about like Ctrl+Alt+Del and the task manager. I hate feeling stuck with an interface and I’m sad to say that as much as I like this OS it has still failed my expectations for a daily use system. Like, I’m not ready to give up on Void, but I want to figure out a way to unjam it if it ever does that again. Fuck me for sitting down and trying to write a bit.
I’m trying to get back into development again. There are things I need to do and organize and it feels overwhelming.
- Migrate any project I’ve posted on GitHub over to GitLabs.
- Dig up my old unfinished projects and document them and try to get some progress.
- Website updating for multi-use. I think I can get away with just attaching another URL to parts of this site for projects. I want to get an art/photography studio site going, also a site for doing local tech support.
My plan is to try getting some tech support clients in the little town I’m in, another trade I may try is fixing bicycles. My new friend is amazing at art but needs promotion and media management, so I’ve offered to do that too. Which leaves me needing to spin up like 3-4 separate websites. I think I can just do everything from this setup, but we’ll see. The issue I’m foreseeing is that I don’t want to create separate Quartz4 instances, but I may have to so that the websites don’t share links. I need to look into what the limitations of this system are.
I do plan on getting my UT04 server running again. I shut it down a while back, but I just moved the server to new internet with 2Gig internet, so hopefully that’s useful for someone. I want to work on my mod more and re-launch the server once I have artwork I can have flash on the screen for kills.
I had great luck with the arcade cabinet I have been intending to work on, the CRT monitor in it just works! Not only that but it just connects to a VGA port! I was assuming I’d have to get some adapter or splice in analoge signal in some way, but it just connects. I was running my PS3 over an HDMI-VGA adapter, I’ll have to extract audio with a device or get SONY to VGA/RCA cables for it soon.
