I’m partway through setting up my Unreal Tournament 2004 server. Having to learn a lot and figure out how to get player models to be consistent. Not super easy because of link rot and how old this game is, but it’s a fun challenge. About to host UTComp files from this webserver.

Well, I learned some things. I’m not going to be able to allow UT04 clients to pick a custom player model just using the systems built into UT04. There is a specific limitation on pushing .upl .ucl and .int files. This gives me a specific challenge for hosting a custom model specific server, but I have a plan. I can use a Community Mod Pack approach and push those files using Resilio Sync. It’s a bit more complicated, but I can push the installer and community notes in the same file transfer system, I just have to get players to install and link the Resilio Sync client and set it up to push common model files to their install or UT04. That won’t be entirely impossible..maybe I can use batch files to make it easier.
